The Summit Herald of March 10, 1939 reported that the Summit chapter of the Red Cross was honored by being chosen to participate in the upcoming World’s Fair. The Summit Public Library had a colorful display of gardening books and magazines to celebrate Garden Book Week. The JCP&L cooking column suggested recipes to make vegetables more interesting, including Turnips Newburg, French Fried Pepper Rings, and Creamed Onions with Brazil Nuts. Three people were arrested by a night patrolman for stealing newly planted shrubs from private property.
