I am pleased to be the new Director of the Summit Free Public Library. My first weeks have flown by and I have had the opportunity to meet many of our patrons and Summit residents and I look forward to meeting more of you as the months go by.
After all the welcome receptions and my first Board of Trustees meeting, it was time to buckle down to work. I am pleased to say that we already have a number of projects under way. We listened to your suggestions and we have updated several of the computers in the public access area and we have added Microsoft Office to all the Internet access computers. This will make it easier for patrons to prepare documents such as resumes and letters and e-mail them to prospective employers and/or colleagues. In addition, we have added a public access fax machine and a notary public service. The library is now your one-stop business center.
Most exciting of all is our work to update and improve the library's web page. Watch out for the preview page on May 1st. Over the next three months we will continue to improve the web page and make it easier for our patrons to find the information they need.
Be on the lookout in the next few months as we revive our long-dormant Friends of the Library group and add additional programs and services. It is exciting for me to embark on a new challenge and help enhance the services of the Summit Public Library. Summit is a great city with a great library and I look forward to working with you to make it even better.
