Happy New Year! Did you make New Year’s resolutions this year?
Well, we can help you keep those resolutions. Did you resolve to lose some weight? Stop in at the library for a large selection of diet books. From Atkins to Mediterranean to Paleo and more, we have it all. How about some exercise? The library has a large selection of exercise DVDs including boot camp, yoga, Pilates, tai chi and more. Take a free exercise video from the library, exercise in the privacy of your own home and save on gym fees. That accomplishes two resolutions at once, exercising and saving money.
Did you resolve to quit smoking? Join us on January 14 for a free seminar on effective ways to do it. The presenter, respiratory therapist Roland Romano, is the Project Manager for the Saint Barnabas Lung Cancer Institute. He has been helping people to break tobacco dependency for over 13 years.
Want to save some more money this year? Stop buying those expensive magazines at the supermarket. Read your favorite magazines for free on your computer or mobile device using the library’s Zinio collection. Access one of 31 magazines in our collection including National Geographic, Economist, Forbes, O, the Oprah Magazine, House Beautiful, Popular Science, Women's Health, Town & Country, Car & Driverand more through the library’s web page. Once downloaded these magazines are yours to keep on your device until you are ready to delete them.
Did you resolve to improve your mind and read more? Of course, the library can help you with that! Perhaps you want to join or start a book group. You’re welcome to join the library’s long-running Brown Bag Book Club that meets the third Friday of each month at 12:30 pm. Or if you are starting your own home book club or joining one, take advantage of the library’s large collection of book club kits. The library has over 60 titles available for loan. Did you resolve to start writing? You may be interested in joining a four-week memoir writing workshop on Thursday mornings beginning January 22. 2015. Led by writer and educator Lisa Winkler, participants will learn to organize, write, and revise their memories. Attendance is limited, so please pre-register at the Reference Desk, or call 908-273-0350, ext. 3.
Did you resolve to improve your English or learn a new language? The library has a large collection of books and DVDs to help you learn Spanish, Greek, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and more. We also offer ESL classes in cooperation with The Connection. No matter what you resolved, the library has just what you need to keep those resolutions this year!
And now the cold weather is upon us. Remember if the snow and cold weather keep you at home, you can still access the library catalog to renew your library materials, place a hold or check our catalog. The book return boxes in the municipal parking lot adjacent to the library are open 24 hours a day. You may also access many of our databases and check out electronic materials from our website atwww.summitlibrary.org
without leaving the warmth of your home.
