A Buick for Christmas

poultryThe Summit Herald of December 31, 1926 reported that the pastor of the Central Presbyterian Church received a generous Christmas gift from anonymous members of his congregation: a shiny new Buick sedan. The Commonwealth Water Company installed 7 new fire hydrants in Summit. A frugal bird-lover placed a Wanted To Buy classified ad: “Canary cage. Not too small. Must be cheap.” Highlights of 1926 included Gertrude Ederle swimming the English Channel, the death of Rudolph Valentino, and Germany joining the League of Nations.
