From the Director - March 2016

Starting in April the Children’s Room will undergo a transformation. The room will be more colorful and child-friendly, brighter, safer and will even include a Makerspace, a do-it-yourself space where kids can create, invent and learn. The Summit Library Foundation is raising funds to assist in this wonderful project. You can help!

The Foundation invites the entire community to participate in this vital endeavor and hopes you will join in making a contribution. Your contribution will ensure that our library can continue to enrich and support our community. Gifts of any size are important and appreciated. You may donate by mailing a check made out to the Summit Free Public Library Foundation to 75 Maple Street, Summit, NJ 07901, by dropping off a check at the library or online using a credit/debit card at http://www.summitlibrary.org/about-the-library/support-the-library/summit-library-foundation.

March’s Music at the Library program will feature an encore performance by harpist Aideen O’Donnell performing traditional Irish music—instrumental and vocal—as well as some of her own original compositions. Join us on Sunday, March 20th at 2:00 pm for this spectacular performer. St. Patrick’s Day festivities for kids will be on tap on Saturday, March 12th at 2:00 pm with Irish songs, stories and dancing. Children in grades K – 5 are invited to “Shamrocks and Blarney Stones” for a wee bit of Irish fun.

Be sure to attend the Summit Friends of the Library business meeting on Tuesday, March 8th at 7:30 pm. Immediately following the business meeting, Dr. Kavita Kewalramani will present a lecture on “The 3 ADLs to Health and Wellness: Activity, Diet and Lo-Stress.” The business meeting and lecture are open to all. If you haven’t joined the Friends of the Library, this is a great time to do so. The Friends plan fundraisers such as jewelry sales, the DVD transfer event and the ongoing magazine sale to support many library activities including the museum pass program, children’s events and more. You can join the Friends of the Library at https://summitfriendsofthelibrary.wildapricot.org/join-us or by picking up a brochure in the library. Everyone needs friends, even libraries.

Regular library hours are Monday through Thursday – 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, Friday and Saturday – 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and Sunday 1:00 – 5:00 pm. The library will be closed on Sunday, March 27th in observance of Easter Sunday.

The drive-up materials return bins located in the municipal parking lot adjacent to Cedar Street are open 24 hours a day. The library website and catalog are also available 24 hours a day at http://www.summitlibrary.org/.

Remember you can check out an eBook or eAudiobook from the library catalog through the website 24/7.
